Forged W2 steel blade 28″ nagasa. Differentially heat treated to create a wild hamon with utsuri and ashi. The tsuba is inspired by the mon of the Shimazu clan in Satsuma province. The tsukamaki is water-proof katatemaki style. Menuki, fuchi and kashira are made of antiqued copper. The saya is made of poplar with copper and ebony fittings. The Shimazu mon is applied with gold leaf and then lacquered. The wall-mounting stand is made of carved oak. A few images depict the process of making the blade.
